Sunil Kumar Murmu, a resident of Langaritand village under Khaira block in Jamui district around 165km south-east of Patna, had joined the BSF in 2013 and was posted in the Uri sector (Kupwara) of Jammu & Kashmir.
A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan was killed when Pakistan army snipers fired at him on the Line of Control (LoC) in Tangdhar sector of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Tuesday.
Inspector General of BSF, Kashmir Frontier, Sonali Mishra told DNA that the attack occurred at 4.50 pm when Pakistan snipers fired at the Forward Defence Location (FDL) in which constable Sunil Kumar Murmu of 124th battalion suffered grievous injuries.
“It was deployment of BSF and 20 Jat (regiment of the army). It was snipping which took place in the Tangdhar sector. Constable Sunil Kumar Murmu was hit in his abdomen”, said Mishra.
The incident occurred at a very high altitude post and the injured soldier had to be brought on foot to Jabri village. “He was then taken to Shararat from where he was airlifted to 92 base hospital”, said Mishra.
Hours later, he succumbed to his wounds at Army's 92 Base hospital at 8.30 pm. Hailing from Langritar village in Jamui district of Bihar, 29 year old Constable Murmu had joined the BSF in 2013.
On Tuesday morning, Duliya Hembram, 23, had excitedly told her husband over the phone that she had cracked the written test for constable recruitment in the Bihar police. Hours later, at 8.30pm, her world came crashing down with another phone call, from the 125th battalion headquarters of the Border Security Force, which informed her that her husband, BSF constable Sunil Kumar Murmu, 28, had died of Pakistani sniper fire along the LoC in Jammu & Kashmir.
Sunil, the eldest among the five siblings, was the only breadwinner in the family.
"He Sunil had spoken to me over phone on Tuesday morning. He was very happy and had promised to come to the village in May," said Dulia. "I had told him about the Bihar police recruitment examination. The physical test is scheduled to be held in March. But within minutes our world turned topsy-turvy."

Duliya, also called Somra, married Sunil in 2012. They have two sons, Anand Raj, 5, and Aditya Raj, 3. Anand is a student of St Joseph's School in Khaira.
Sunil's father, Kailash Murmu, said that he was proud of his son's valour.
"He made the supreme sacrifice for the nation. I am proud of being Sunil's father despite the great loss to my family," he said, adding that he would like his son Sandip to join the force as well.
Sandip said he would like to serve the nation if provided an opportunity. "The entire family is proud of Sunil's supreme sacrifice," he added.
